Ahh, the pungent smell of beer, sweat, and ganj. It's festival time. A time when gross old hippies and underage whores-in-training find it acceptable to wear swimwear where there is no body of water in sight. Good times.
Day 1:
Andrew Bird, best show of the day. Much thanks to jimstock on the reccomendation. Huge spinning phonographs and a driving delivery of songs kept me entertained. Wish I would have seen him at night.
Moe. didn't do much for me. I haven't figured out what people like about them, they seemed kinda flat. And having to put a period at the end of their name is annoying. At some point I slipped, tripped, and got wasted so Spoon and Lupe Fiasco kinda ran together for me, but I remember a bunch of white people having a good time bouncing around to Lupe. Thug life.
Petty played the songs everybody wanted to hear; and those were songs that I wanted to hear too, so yeah, satisfied.
Day 2:
All the goddamn Dave fans caused a helluva traffic jam, so some earlier shows were missed. I realize that all the goddamn Dave fans probably made the fest a lot of money, hopefully enough that this will happen for the next few years. But I digress--
Rodrigo y Gabriela es muy bueno. Some people might not be able to endure an entire show of instrumental songs-- and those people can blow me. I could watch Gabriela violate and pleasure an acoustic guitar over and over.
Denver's own, The Flobots, put on a show. I know everybody's heard "Handlebars" a million times, but when the whole crowd is belting it out together (as well as a bonus viola solo) it still gets you going. Girl on viola just killed it, too.
I had to pass on The Roots (sorry Coulter) to see a little rock and roll band called The Black Crowes. They win the "coolest looking band" award hands down, flannel/beards/vest/masculinity, and happen to play some damn good music at the same time.
Haven't seen Dave in a while, so that was a pleasant show. Timmy wailing away on electric guitar was delightful and his solo on "Proudest Monkey" made for the best version of that song that I've heard. But I'll defer to more qualified Dave-o-philes (ahem, dangler/realnp) to give a proper critique.
